These last few months I have been very busy preparing for a special time – publishing my very first children’s book. I wrote this story while I was a teacher and the story idea came into my mind from just one moment in the school day. I was in the school office photocopying some work and I heard my colleague John shout “Douglas, pick up your trousers!!” It was like a lightning bolt idea. My story came to me in a flash and that evening when I got home I started to write my ideas down. It was incredible watching the story unfold on the page. So, my first book is based on a little boy that I used to teach called Douglas, but the rest is completely fictional.
My book will be ready to order in July from Amazon. My book launch is on the 2nd September 2017 at Wenlock Books in Much Wenlock at 2pm. I have chosen to hold it here because it is near to where I live and where I grew up in Bridgnorth. Also, Much Wenlock is a beautiful place and it is very close to Morville Primary School, a lovely little country school where I used to teach.
On the day, I will talk about how I came to start writing for children. Next comes the magical part, where I will read my rhyming tale to everyone. Afterwards there will be refreshments for both adults and children and a chance to have my book signed. I even have a Douglas doll that I have had made especially, so that I can take him everywhere I go to read my story.
I am so proud to be able to share my story with children. I hope to bump into some of the children I used to teach and catch up with mums and dads I haven’t seen in a while. It will be lovely to meet some new friends and of course, share it with my wonderful friends and family. It will be a very memorable day that marks the start of an exciting future for me, my dream of writing stories for children.
Do you have any light bulb story moments that you would like to share?
